Synopsis

In the remote village of Mandryn, Tessia assists her father, the village Healer, but her life takes an unexpected turn when she unconsciously uses magic to defend herself from a visiting mage. Lord Dakon, the local magician, takes Tessia as his apprentice, opening up a new world of study, privilege, and trips to the great city of Imardin. However, Tessia soon discovers that her magical gifts come with significant responsibility as danger looms for her and her world.

Trudi Canavan is an Australian fantasy author, born in Melbourne and raised in the suburb of Ferntree Gully. She worked as a graphic designer and for the magazine Aurealis before writing full time. Her debut, The Magicians' Guild (2001), began the Black Magician trilogy, followed by the Age of the Five trilogy, the Traitor Spy trilogy and the Millennium's Rule series.
