Synopsis

The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper is the tenth Travis McGee novel by John D. MacDonald, first published in 1968. When a young woman's mind begins to unravel without any apparent cause, McGee takes the case and is drawn into a dark conspiracy involving a local doctor and a drug-laundering scheme. The title refers to the drug that is slowly destroying the woman's mind, and the investigation uncovers a sinister operation hidden beneath the surface of a small Florida town. A classic of the hardboiled mystery genre, it blends suspense, mystery, and a haunting psychological edge.
