The Clockwork Wolf
As the proprietor of Disenchanted & Co. in a steampunk version of America, Charmian "Kit" Kittredge makes her living solving magical crimes. Doing a favour for the deathmage Lucien Dredmore, she agrees to interview a newly widowed lady as a potential client, and finds that the woman is Lady Eugenia Bestly, president of the Rumsen Ladies Decency Society, who once led a vicious campaign to ruin her.
Lady Bestly now lives in fear herself: the press is about to unmask her husband as the savage Wolfman who died while terrorising the city. As the rampages continue, Kit determines that there is more than one Wolfman, and that they may themselves be victims of far more dangerous players.
While dodging mechanised assassins and the protection pressed on her by both Dredmore and Chief Inspector Tom Doyle, Kit follows a tangled path from a prestigious gentlemen's club fronting a hellish secret to a vengeful native tribe and ancient magics.
Proprietor of Disenchanted & Co., who investigates magical crimes and exposes frauds.
Deathmage who repeatedly tries to take Kit under his protection.
Chief Inspector who also wants to protect Kit.
Widow and president of the Rumsen Ladies Decency Society, who once tried to ruin Kit.
