A novice monk with a perfect memory and a genuinely simple faith — the last true believer in Om, and therefore the most powerful man in Omnia without knowing it.

Vorbis

Deacon of the Omnian Inquisition — a man of absolute conviction who has hollowed out all empathy in service of a faith he does not truly hold.

Om

The great god of Omnia, reduced to tortoise form because mass worship without genuine belief has stripped him of power. Cantankerous, self-important, and slowly learning humility.

Didactylos

A philosopher in the tradition of Diogenes, living in a barrel, who provides the novel's intellectual counterweight to the institutional religion of Omnia.
