Synopsis

The wizards of Unseen University have discovered that their ancient charter requires them to field a football team — or lose a significant portion of their dining budget. Football in Ankh-Morpork is a violent, improvisational brawl, and Lord Vetinari wants it reformed into something civilized before someone gets too ambitious with it. Mr Nutt, a goblin candle-dribbler, turns out to be rather more than he appears, and Glenda the Night Kitchen cook turns out to be the most competent person involved.

  • What sport does Unseen Academicals parody?

  • Is Unseen Academicals a standalone Discworld novel?

Largely yes, though it features Ankh-Morpork and many familiar background figures. Mr Nutt and Glenda are entirely new characters and the novel works without prior Discworld knowledge.
