Synopsis

In the winter of 1812, a band of deserters from all the armies of the Peninsular War — French, British, Spanish, and Portuguese — descends on the hamlet of Adrados, led by the villainous Obadiah Hakeswill. They slaughter the men and hold the women hostage, and Richard Sharpe is sent to deliver a ransom. What he finds instead is a desperate fight to rescue the captives from Hakeswill's clutches. Bernard Cornwell's tenth Sharpe novel is a tense, gritty military adventure set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars.
