Shadow of the Mountains

Dr. Cheney Duvall, one of the few female physicians in 1865, finds her opportunities limited despite her prestigious education. When a friend in the remote Ozark Mountains pleads for medical help, Cheney travels to the primitive wilderness of Wolf County, Arkansas, accompanied by her nurse. There, she confronts not only the local people's deep-seated superstition and resistance to modern medicine, but also the powerful influence of a medicine woman and the machinations of land companies, ultimately becoming the target of a dangerous plot.
