Synopsis

Laura and Olivia are driving home at night on a road through the hills when they notice headlights behind them holding the same distance, mile after mile. At first it reads as road rage, someone they cut off, someone who will peel away at the next turn. He does not.

What follows is a chase, and then a decision: stay in the car on a road the men in the truck clearly know better than they do, or leave it and take their chances in the hills on foot, in the dark, with no signal.

Noelle W. Ihli keeps the book tight to the two women and to the stretch of road they are on, and most of the tension comes from how few options they have and how quickly each one closes. What they do not know yet is who is in the truck, or what he wants, or how long he has been waiting for a car like theirs.
