Synopsis

Aurora is the only heir to the throne of Pavan, and she has been raised to rule. She is intelligent, brave and honorable, but she has never shown any sign of the magic a queen needs to protect her people.

To hide this and hold on to the crown, her mother arranges a marriage to a dark, brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. He looks like the answer at first, since he would secure Aurora's place as the next queen and serve as the champion Pavan needs. The more she learns about him, though, the more the match frightens her.

One night Aurora puts on a disguise and slips out of the palace to spy on the prince. She stumbles onto a black market that sells storm magic, the very thing she lacks. The sellers are not Stormlings but storm hunters.

According to legend, her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and taking part of its essence. A young storm hunter tells her he was born without magic and has it now. That gives Aurora a third path, apart from ruin or marriage: she can try to steal magic for herself, if she has the courage.

This is a fantasy with a royal heroine, a suspicious betrothal and a growing sense of danger around the prince.
