Synopsis

In the fourth and final volume of Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel, Marji returns to Iran after years abroad, only to find herself a stranger in her own country. She resumes life under a regime that polices women's dress and behaviour, works out small acts of everyday resistance, marries young, and later divorces as she keeps searching for a place she can call her own.

Balancing family ties, social pressure, and her own restlessness, she confronts how much both she and Iran have changed since she left as a girl. The volume closes the memoir's arc from childhood witness to adult negotiating exile, home, and identity on her own terms.

Told in Satrapi's spare black-and-white style, it brings the story begun in the earlier volumes to its close.
