Noragami

Noragami: Stray God follows Yato, a minor deity with no shrine and no worshippers, who takes on odd jobs for five yen apiece while chasing his dream of being properly enshrined.

When middle schooler Hiyori Iki is struck by a bus while saving him, her soul becomes loosely tethered to her body, letting her slip between the human world and the spirit realm beyond it.

Drawn into Yato's world, she joins him and Yukine, a troubled young spirit bound to Yato as his living weapon, as the three take on the ayakashi, phantoms who prey on the living.

Written and illustrated by the artist duo Adachitoka, the series draws on Japanese folklore and Shinto mythology for its cast of gods and spirits while balancing lighthearted comedy against darker threads about identity, grief and what it means to be remembered. It ran in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from 2010 to 2024.
