Synopsis

In the second book of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga, Bella Swan's happiness with Edward Cullen is shattered when circumstances drive the Cullen family away from Forks. Left behind and heartbroken, Bella sinks into a numb, months-long depression — until she rekindles a close friendship with Jacob Black, whose warmth begins to pull her back toward life.

But Jacob is hiding secrets of his own, and as Bella is drawn deeper into the supernatural world she thought she'd left behind, she discovers that the Quileute legends are more than stories. When a reckless act puts her on a collision course with an ancient and merciless vampire authority, Bella must decide how far she will go for the people she loves.

New Moon deepens the saga's central love triangle and its themes of loss, longing, and belonging, trading some of the first book's swoon for a darker, more melancholy tone.
