Sara Gallagher has always wondered about the birth parents who gave her up. When she finally tracks down her birth mother, she learns the truth: her mother is the only known survivor of a serial killer active for decades on Vancouver Island, a man the press calls the Campsite Killer. Once the story becomes public, Sara's birth father — the killer himself — starts contacting her directly, drawing her into a dangerous relationship he controls and threatening more violence if she doesn't cooperate.
The novel is framed as Sara's sessions with her psychiatrist, Nadine Lavoie, alternating between Sara's present-day ordeal and the unraveling of her family's past. It is the second book featuring Nadine Lavoie, following Still Missing.
