Psychiatrist Nadine Lavoie is treating a young patient who claims to have escaped a religious commune on a remote part of Vancouver Island, run by a charismatic leader named Aaron Quinn. As Nadine digs into the case, she recognizes disturbing echoes of her own childhood: as a girl, her mother took her and her brother to live on that same commune, under Quinn's control.
Forced to confront memories she has spent her adult life avoiding, Nadine investigates what really happened at the commune, and what became of the people who never left. The story moves between Nadine's present-day work and the fragments of her suppressed past. It is the third book featuring Nadine Lavoie, after Still Missing and Never Knowing.
