Synopsis

A Japanese-American television producer grieving a recent pregnancy loss is hired to host a reality show about industrial meatpacking — and in doing so finds an unexpected bond with Tania, an undocumented immigrant worker on the slaughterhouse line. Ruth Ozeki weaves together themes of cultural identity, food systems, and motherhood into a quietly devastating portrait of two women drawn together by grief and labor.
