Frequently asked questions

  • What is Lisey's Story about?

Two years after the death of her famous novelist husband Scott Landon, Lisey begins sorting through his papers. As she does, she discovers that the fantastical worlds Scott described in his fiction were not invented—they were real places he actually traveled to, and she must return to them to save herself from a dangerous stalker who wants Scott's unpublished work.

  • What is Boo'ya Moon?

Boo'ya Moon is an alternate world Scott has visited since childhood—a place of extraordinary beauty and terrible darkness, a kind of collective unconscious with healing properties but also a monster that lives in it. Scott calls it the pool of the gods. Lisey discovers she can access it through a connection she shares with her dead husband.

  • Is Lisey's Story King's most personal novel?

King has said it is. He wrote it as a letter to his wife Tabitha about what marriage actually is—the private language couples develop, the way spouses carry each other's inner worlds, what is lost when one dies. He has said it is the novel he is proudest of and is hurt that it received less attention than his more obviously commercial works.

  • Was Lisey's Story adapted?

Yes. An Apple TV+ miniseries aired in 2021, starring Julianne Moore as Lisey and Clive Owen as Scott. King wrote all eight episodes himself—an unusual level of creative control for a TV adaptation. It received mixed critical response; some praised its fidelity to the source, others found it slow.
