Synopsis

The French edition (translated by Michel Pagel) of K.J. Parker's Prosper's Demon (2020). An unnamed, morally ambiguous exorcist has built a career on ridding people of demons — his methods are effective, if indelicate, and he rarely worries what becomes of the person afterward. His latest case is Prosper of Schanz, a man of science determined to raise the world's first philosopher-king by the purest principles — and possessed by a demon the exorcist has crossed paths with before. Removing it is simple. Deciding whether he should, when the demon may be exactly what makes Prosper's genius possible, is not. A pitch-dark, witty fantasy novella about demons, broken faith, and worse men.

About the author

K
K. J. Parker

K. J. Parker is a pen name used by British author Tom Holt (born 1961) for seventeen years before his identity was revealed in 2015; "K.J." honors a friend who taught Holt metalworking, and "Parker" is a literal pen name. Parker's fantasy novels, including Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City and the Engineer trilogy, are known for intricate plotting and a dry, cynical narrative voice.
