Synopsis

Humanity faces extinction after the Oankali, galactic genetic traders, deem them a flawed species and strip them of their reproductive ability. As the remnants of civilization descend into barbarism, a new being emerges: Jodahs, the first Ooloi, a genderless hybrid with the power to heal genes. With a human-like appearance, Jodahs must overcome deep-seated xenophobia to help Earth's inhabitants and, through an ancient Oankali gift, wield the most potent force in the universe: sexual attraction.
