Synopsis

Tony Hill is behind bars, convicted of manslaughter, while Carol Jordan is at loose ends without her career or her closest collaborator. When two different sets of skeletons are discovered on the grounds of a former convent, Jordan's old team has to pick up an investigation neither of its former leaders can run.

Tony, meanwhile, is forced into an uneasy truce with his own vindictive mother, while Carol drifts toward a group campaigning to free prisoners they believe were wrongly convicted. The eleventh Tony Hill and Carol Jordan novel keeps both characters at arm's length from the case that needs them most.
