Synopsis

When financial disaster strikes her family, Sophie accepts a marriage proposal from Mr. Argenton, a wealthy stranger, to save them. The arrangement takes her to Northwood, his vast, isolated estate hours from the nearest town — a place that turns out to be far from ordinary.

As Sophie settles into her new role as mistress of the house, she begins to notice its unnatural darkness. Doors slam shut with no one nearby. A piano plays on its own in empty rooms. Figures move through the surrounding forest after dark, and blood appears on the walls with no explanation.

Piece by piece, Sophie uncovers what her husband has been hiding about Northwood's history — and about the spirits that still haunt its halls. House of Shadows is the first book in Darcy Coates' Ghosts and Shadows series, blending gothic romance with supernatural horror.
