Synopsis

Minerva Hepplewhite has learned to take care of herself: when an intruder breaks into her home, she wallops him over the head and ties him up — only to discover he's Chase Radnor, a gentleman who investigates suspicious matters, and the grandson of a duke. Chase insists Minerva has inherited a fortune from his late uncle, the duke — but as an outsider with a murky past and much to gain from his death, she's the prime suspect in his murder. To clear her name, Minerva launches her own investigation, founding Hepplewhite's Office of Discreet Inquiries, and she and Chase form an uneasy alliance as they compete for, then share, clues — their wary attraction simmering alongside mutual respect.
