Synopsis

A body with no identification and a broken feed interface turns up in a Preservation Station corridor. Station Security, led by Senior Officer Indah, is officially in charge of finding out who killed him — but Dr. Mensah worries the death may be connected to the hostile corporation GrayCris, and persuades a reluctant Indah to let Murderbot help.

Murderbot's own investigation is not exactly welcome; Indah does not trust a SecUnit anywhere near an open case. But digging into the victim's identity uncovers something Station Security wasn't looking for: a smuggling operation moving people through Preservation's territory, and cracks in the station's own security systems that someone worked hard to hide.
