Synopsis

While driving through the California desert, private investigator Lew Archer stops to help a hitchhiker bleeding on the side of the road. The man dies before he can explain what happened, pulling Archer into a web of small-town corruption and hidden family secrets. He must navigate a landscape of desperate people to find out who wanted the victim dead and why.
