Synopsis

Daine travels to the foreign land of Carthak as part of a peace delegation, but she quickly finds herself in a difficult political situation. While trying to heal the emperor's birds, she struggles with the country's slave practices and the emperor's cruel nature. Daine suspects Emperor Ozorne is planning something sinister, and she must find a way to stop his power-hungry schemes before peace is shattered.

Tamora Pierce (born December 13, 1954, in South Connellsville, Pennsylvania) is an American author of fantasy fiction for young adults, best known for her Tortall novels beginning with the Song of the Lioness quartet (1983–1988). She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and was awarded the Young Adult Library Services Association's Margaret A. Edwards Award in 2013 for her lasting contribution to writing for teens.
