Synopsis

Detroit, 2030. Peri Reed is one of the most talented drafters alive: she can rewind roughly forty seconds of time to undo a mission gone wrong. The price is her memory of what happened, which has to be rebuilt for her afterwards by a trained anchor — and her anchor is Jack, her partner and lover.

When Peri discovers that Jack has been deliberately falsifying the memories he gives back to her, she becomes a corruption liability to Opti, the government agency she works for, and has to run. She falls in with Silas, a psychologist working for the opposing faction, and together they try to reconstruct the night she killed her former partner — knowing the reconstruction may destroy her.

The Drafter is the first book in Kim Harrison's Peri Reed Chronicles, a science-fiction thriller in which the reader, like Peri, is never quite sure which memories can be trusted.
