Synopsis

Dance of Shadows is the second book in Gourav Mohanty's Raag of Rta series (the Sons of Darkness saga), an epic grimdark fantasy that reimagines the ancient Indian epic the Mahabharata. Set against a realm fractured by war and old enmities, it moves from the besieged West around Mathura to the lush Tree City of Kamrup in the East, where rival powers gather under a fragile peace to determine the future of the land.

Rather than a straightforward sequel, the novel runs parallel to the events of Sons of Darkness, weaving new figures, a pirate-queen, a temple-courtesan-dancer, a librarian-princess, a Naga, and a wandering knight, through interlocking storylines of intrigue, plague, and buried secrets. Mohanty's dense, morally grey cast and layered political scheming make this an ambitious, large-scale fantasy for readers who favor complexity over simplicity.

With its Indian mythological foundations, sprawling POV structure, and unflinching grimdark tone, Dance of Shadows expands one of the most distinctive recent voices in epic fantasy.
