Crossed

After her relationship with Ky is exposed as an act of rebellion, Cassia is sent to a work camp while Ky is reassigned to the Society's front lines. Determined to reach him, Cassia slips away toward the Outer Provinces and into the Carving, a maze of desert canyons, where she and Ky's paths converge again.

Told from Cassia and Ky's alternating perspectives, Crossed follows their search for each other and for the Rising, a rebellion led by a figure known only as the Pilot. Along the way they fall in with others displaced by the Society's control, and Cassia is forced to weigh her feelings for Ky against her growing pull toward joining the resistance.

The second book in Ally Condie's Matched trilogy trades the Society's controlled interiors for open, unmapped terrain, and shifts the story from a quiet question of choice toward open rebellion.
