Synopsis

Anna is the ugly stepsister, and she is tired of being named the villain. In this retelling of the Cinderella story, she gets to give her own account of what happened in her household.

Next to Cinderella, who is perfect and wonderful, Anna feels plain and overlooked. Bullies make her days harder, her mother is grumpy, and her step-father has died. Anna is close to the end of her patience.

Then the Prince's ball draws near. Anna hears that a husband must be found for her, because the family's fortune depends on it, and she goes with her sisters. The sulky Prince Charming has no interest in anyone but Cinderella.

That leaves Anna with a decision. She alone is placed to bring her stepsister and the Prince together, so she can play cupid. Or she can shield Cinderella from a prince she finds arrogant.

The whole book is told from Anna's point of view, as a twist on a familiar fairy tale, with a light, comic edge. It belongs to a series of fairy tale retellings that also includes Saving Rapunzel, Killing Snow White, The Beast With No Beauty, I Love Little Red, Ugly Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel: Devil Children.
