Chronicles Of The First Crusade
This collection brings together first-hand accounts of the First Crusade (1095-1099), assembled and translated by historian Christopher Tyerman. It includes Pope Urban II's original call to arms at Clermont in 1095 alongside the writings of priests and knights who marched with the crusading armies, a Jewish pilgrim, a destitute noblewoman, an Iraqi poet, and the Byzantine historian Anna Comnena. Together the excerpts give a many-sided, contemporary view of the campaign that ended with the fall of Jerusalem in 1099, from the perspectives of crusaders, Muslims, Jews, and Byzantines who lived through it.
