Synopsis

A Louisiana farmer is imprisoned for a murder committed three decades prior, involving a black civil rights leader. He maintains his innocence and seeks the help of sheriff's deputy Dave Robicheaux to clear his name. However, proving his innocence is complicated, as many powerful figures prefer the case to remain closed.

James Lee Burke (born December 5, 1936, in Houston, Texas) is an American novelist best known for the Dave Robicheaux crime series, which began with The Neon Rain. He also writes the Billy Bob Holland and Hackberry Holland series. His novels have won three Edgar Awards for Best Novel — Black Cherry Blues (1990), Cimarron Rose (1998), and Flags on the Bayou (2024) — and in 2009 the Mystery Writers of America named him a Grand Master.
