Synopsis

Charlotte Holmes has never been comfortable pretending to be less clever than she is, and it costs her: a personal scandal turns her into a social outcast, disowned by her own family and left to survive on London's margins. When three unexpected deaths strike the city and suspicion falls on her sister and father, Charlotte can't afford to stay hidden. With help from a kind widow, a sympathetic police inspector, and a man who has quietly loved her for years, she takes on the name Sherlock Holmes to investigate the deaths herself, going up against a mastermind society would never suspect a woman of catching. This series-opening reimagining of Sherlock Holmes as a Victorian woman blends detective-story plotting with a slow-building romance and sharp commentary on the constraints placed on women of her class.
