Wonder
The Wonder series explores themes of kindness, acceptance, and finding your place. It follows August Pullman, a boy with facial differences, as he navigates school and friendships. These stories offer a hopeful look at empathy and the power of seeing beyond appearances.
While "Wonder" is the first full novel, the companion books "The Julian Chapter," "Pluto," and "Shingaling" offer perspectives from other characters and can be read after the main story to enrich the experience. "Auggie & Me" collects these three novellas. "White Bird" is a graphic novel set in the same universe, focusing on Julian's grandmother's story during World War II.
The first book, "Wonder," was adapted into a major motion picture in 2017. A film adaptation of the graphic novel "White Bird" was also released.
While each book can be read independently, they are best enjoyed in conjunction with "Wonder" as they expand on the original story and characters, offering different viewpoints and backstories.
The "Wonder" series is the primary collection of interconnected stories by R.J. Palacio that share characters and a universe. "Pony" is a separate standalone novel by the author.
