The Mistborn Saga
The Mistborn Saga is Brandon Sanderson's epic fantasy sequence set on the world of Scadrial, built around Allomancy — a magic system in which metals, swallowed and burned, grant specific powers. The saga is planned across four eras separated by large time skips, so the world advances technologically between them. Era One opens on an ash-choked empire ruled for a thousand years by the Lord Ruler, where a crew of thieves takes on an impossible job. Era Two, the Wax and Wayne books, picks up roughly three hundred years later in an industrialising age of railroads, revolvers and lawmen. Seven novels and the novella Secret History are in print; a third era is being written and a fourth is planned.
