The Green Mile
Stephen King's "The Green Mile" follows death row supervisor Paul Edgecombe as he recounts his time at Cold Mountain Penitentiary during the Great Depression. This series explores justice, morality, and the supernatural events surrounding an inmate with an extraordinary gift.
The Green Mile was originally published as a series of six paperback novellas. The intended reading order is the order of their original publication: The Two Dead Girls, The Mouse on the Mile, Coffey's Hands, The Bad Death of Eduard Delacroix, Night Journey, and Coffey on the Mile.
The entire series was adapted into a single feature film released in 1999, starring Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecombe. The movie closely follows the narrative arc of all six novellas.
While not a direct part of a larger shared universe like some of King's other series, The Green Mile features thematic elements and a narrative style that are characteristic of his broader body of work, exploring supernatural phenomena within a realistic setting.
