Zodiac Rising

Earthly Branches Academy is a secret Manhattan boarding school where the Descendants of the Chinese zodiac have hidden away since their twelve zodiac statues, the source of their magic, were vandalized and lost to time. A curse has left them creatures of darkness ever since British soldiers stole the bronze fountainheads during the Second Opium War.

When the lost statues suddenly resurface and a powerful classmate turns up dead, suspicion falls on the fae. Then Julius Long, chancellor of the Descendants' High Council, is killed, and his vampire sister Evangeline must fulfill an age-old prophecy by retrieving the fountainheads and restoring her people's mortality. She recruits her best friend Nicholas, a fox spirit; her werewolf ex Tristan; and a mortal mind-reader named Alice for a dangerous heist into Faerieland that doubles as a hunt for her brother's killer.
