You've Reached Margo
Ivy takes a call from a young woman called Margo. She has taken a lot of calls, and what she hears in this one is not the thing she is trained to listen for. Margo does not sound like someone who wants to die. She sounds like someone who is frightened of something.
A few hours later Margo is dead.
Ivy drives to Hickory's End, the town Margo came from, to work out what had frightened her. What she finds is a place where Margo had clearly turned something up, and where people who ask about it have a habit of not doing well. Nancy Savage keeps Ivy an outsider throughout, without the standing or the authority to make anyone answer her, in a town that has already decided how Margo died.
A crisis hotline operator who travels to a dead caller's hometown to find out what she was frightened of.
The young woman whose call Ivy takes, dead within hours.
