Synopsis

In the third Joe Goldberg novel, Joe has washed up on a small island in the Pacific Northwest, determined to become a better man. He takes a volunteer job at the public library and sets his sights on Mary Kay DiMarco, a librarian who seems, at last, like the real thing — and this time, Joe vows, he will win her honestly, without the shortcuts of his past.

But doing things the "right" way is harder than Joe imagined. Mary Kay has a life, a daughter, ex-partners, and complications that don't bend easily to Joe's plans, and his patience frays as the world keeps standing between him and the future he is sure he deserves.

Caroline Kepnes returns with a sharp, darkly funny thriller about self-improvement, delusion, and the stories a predator tells to convince himself he has changed — narrated in Joe's inimitable, seductive voice.
