forgot to write a review about it so here it goes:
things i enjoyed:
- the DIVERSITY. such great representation of the latinx and the LGBT+ communities. it all felt so inclusive and real, not at all forced. loved it.
- the bits written in spanish that looked so good when mixed in english conversations. i'm not spanish, but i love that kind of bilingual representations (in my case, i speak to my family in spanish and they reply to me in romanian and i've always thought it was fascinating how our brains managed to keep up so easily when two languages are spoken at the same time).
- the way they portrayed the television industry and its flaws, as well as celebrities's struggles with fame and lack of privacy.
- CONSENT EVERYWHERE. JUST AMAZING.
things that i thought were a bit meh:
- the QUERIDA thing. idk if it's because in spain we don't use the term that much, but to me it feels more like something paternal, like what a father would say to his daughter rather than something you would call your lover. we tend to say more "cariño", "amor", "mi vida", etc.
- the way in which ashton was so anxious about safety and privacy and changed him mind immediately when SPOILER ALERT his kid asked him to take him to new york. that seemed a bit impulsive and rushed.
- the sex scenes were so explicit and i didn't think that they were necessary to this type of story. i mean, i'm not against them, i just think they were too much.
but overall it was a cute reading. it took me too much to read though, but i don't regret picking it up (plus, it was our bookclub pick so i had fun talking about it with the CoHoes). i gave it 3 stars!
