An Anonymous Girl was one of my favorite reads last year so I was a bit intrigued with You Are Not Alone as it has the same genre as the previous book. Shay Miller was having the worst lonely life as she thought, being the sole witness to a suicide making her involved in a bizarre and a dream comes true friendship with the Moore sisters without knowing that it'll soon change her life completely. She thought she could be 'one of them', but never realised they were the one that craving for her life.
The premise was great although the development was really getting on my nerves. It was so secretive and too discreet. From the story of Amanda, back and forth of each past and reality, the revenge and how the Moore making it so prim and proper it making me so uneasy and disturbed. I have no idea on whom to trust. It seems like each characters having their own hidden plan or something. I really want it to end soon (I'm weak with guesses) but at the same time I want to read it slowly, picking up hints and coincidences, digging into each character's personalities and feelings, arranging the puzzles. I fancy Part 3 so much, it was engaging, psychological and quite twisting-- I am as nervous as Shay trying to collect as many data as she can (that data collection journal was one of my favorite part in this novel).
As the authors structured the chapters based on each character's perspectives, the narrative of protagonist and antagonist gave me a closer look of their realities and thoughts which somehow so relatable. It pointed out about the issue on harrassment (sexual and stalking) also on family and trust; I like it highlighted different views on this-- the one that should be supportive but ain't, the one that taking advantage and the one that silently getting you out from the toxic family.
It was adequately thrilled, the anxiety and those lump of revenge, somehow sad and unfair but narratively gripping. Giving this 4.5 stars!
