Synopsis

The narrator, who is never named, writes copy for a living in Berlin and finds the job dull. Then she watches Moon dance at a concert. He is the youngest and most luminous member of a hugely popular Korean boyband, and from that evening nothing else holds her attention. Her boyfriend and her job both slip away.

She starts writing Y/N fanfic, a form of self-insert fiction in which the reader steps into the role of a character who has an intimate relationship with a star. Her own desire puzzles her, and she cannot explain it, but she keeps writing.

When Moon retires without warning and vanishes from public view, she gives up her life in Berlin and follows him to Seoul. There she moves through a maze of mistranslation and corporate secrecy, heading toward a meeting in which her fiction and her real life start to merge.

The tone is surreal and often very funny. It is a literary novel about obsession, fandom and loneliness, told from inside the mind of a woman whose fixation reshapes everything around it.
