Synopsis

Humans, it turns out, are the only species in the cosmos with real musical talent — and when the intergalactic Refined League first discovered Earth's pop music in 1977 (their new "Year Zero"), quintillions of aliens became instantly, helplessly obsessed. There's just one problem: human copyright law sets damages at up to $150,000 per illegally copied song, and the entire universe has been bootlegging for decades. The fine owed now exceeds the value of all matter in existence.

Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter gets pulled into the mess when a mulleted alien and a nun show up at his office — bumbling, powerful extraterrestrials who need him to find a legal loophole before humanity is wiped out to erase the debt. Rob Reid's satirical sci-fi comedy skewers copyright law and the music industry with Douglas Adams-style absurdity.
