I have read The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea previously that I knew I just need to read this as well. XOXO brought me to an enchanting forbidden love story that was so adorably written; light and dreamy with cliché kdrama vibes and if you love kpop too, this would be a package just for you.
From Los Angeles to Seoul, the narrative was told in Jenny's perspective; a 17-year-old pro cellist-to-be who accidentally met Jaewoo, a member of a kpop group XOXO after he ran away one night due to an incident. They became friends but soon lost contact as Jaewoo needs to go back to Seoul. When Jenny's grandmother poor health making her mom decides to move back to Seoul for few months, Jenny tags along without realising that her fate soon will intertwined again with Jaewoo.
Fast pacing and easily expected plot yet so playfully narrated. Great themes of friendship and family; love how the author developed Jenny's family conflicts as a reflect of what it'll be to have a hard stance parent(s) that won't consider your opinion and feelings. I fancy the characterization for the otp as well as the secondary (love Sori's exposition and development so much!) although was hoping to see more of Jenny's cellist character; she was so eager to get into her dream music school yet I don't see much of her being serious with practising cello, she was too preoccupied with Jaewoo that it frustrates me a bit.
Nevertheless, the romance was cute with few swoon-worthy scenes and I like that it was not that exaggeratingly done. No tired phrasing that making it draggy too. A great highlight on the bullying part (I almost slandered you at the end Jina-ssi but you too shouldn't be verbally abusing people like that, okay?) and that sneak peek into the kpop world of its beauty and harsh was intriguing much to me. If you're into both korean literature and light YA romance, then I would highly suggest this book to you. 3.8 stars to this!
Thank you Times Reads for sending me this pretty edition of XOXO in return for my review! ♡
