Wretch
Synopsis
Chicago is in its hottest summer on record, and Detective Donnie Lynch is tracking a killer through the heat. He is not the only one after him. Mob boss Tico Tortellio has left the cover his empire gave him, driven by a personal vendetta on behalf of his daughter.
Their quarry is Derek Hoffman, a sociopath with a steroid habit. He took part in a clinical trial for an experimental arousal drug, and it warped his body and mind into something grotesque. While Tico's daughter lay comatose in a local hospital, Hoffman assaulted her.
After overdosing on the drug, Hoffman becomes a raging beast. He roams the sweltering city and leaves terror and carnage wherever he goes, so the cop and the crime boss are hunting the same monster for different reasons.
This is splatterpunk, a blend of crime fiction and body horror. It draws on mafia culture, cop culture and painful family trauma. Expect graphic violence and a relentless pace, with a story that keeps tightening toward vengeance.
