Synopsis

Alice Grace Ripley, a young woman who prefers books to reality, finds her carefully planned life upended when her boyfriend leaves her and she loses her library job during the Great Depression. Fleeing small-town gossip, Alice travels to a remote Kentucky coal-mining village to deliver donated books. Though initially trapped and out of her element, she soon discovers that real-life adventure, mystery, and romance can be far more fulfilling than any story she's read.
