Synopsis

A young novelist discovers she might be the heir to a wealthy Southern family after being kidnapped as a baby. Traveling to Charleston to uncover her past, she finds a long-lost twin and a family full of secrets, including a mysterious death. Her reappearance stirs up dangerous events that threaten everyone involved.

Phyllis Ayame Whitney was born in Yokohama, Japan, the daughter of American parents, and spent her early years in Asia. She began writing early in her teens. In 1918, upon the death of her father, she travelled with her mother to Berkeley, California, and then to San Antonio, Texas. A few years later her mother died, and she moved to Chicago to live with her aunt.
