Synopsis

Inti Flynn travels to Scotland to lead a project reintroducing wolves to the Highlands. As a scientist, she believes wild predators are the only way to heal a landscape stripped of its balance. As a woman carrying a difficult past, she hopes the move might also let her start over.

Inti has a rare, troubling ability: to physically feel the pain and fear of other living creatures. When a local farmer is found dead and suspicion falls immediately on her wolves, Inti is forced to confront her deepest fears — is it the wolves that are dangerous, or the people hunting them? And can she ever let another person close again, or will the wilderness she's trying to save consume her instead?

Charlotte McConaghy's literary eco-thriller, translated into German by Tanja Handels, blends a reintroduction story with a study of trauma, empathy, and the costs of intimacy.
