Synopsis

Andrea Hejlskov and her husband no longer see the point in the daily grind of work and family life the way it's "supposed" to be lived — their children glued to screens in their rooms, real conversation increasingly rare. They decide to change everything: to get out into nature, away from the demands and limits of civilization, and find what actually matters.

When they're offered a cabin in a remote forest area of Sweden, the plan suddenly becomes real. The family has to relearn the most basic things — how to chop wood, build a log cabin, cook outdoors, handle an injury or illness without easy access to help. Some problems are nearly unmanageable; some days the parents think seriously about giving up; and some of it, unexpectedly, is simply great fun.

A memoir about a family's radical experiment in leaving modern comforts behind.
