Synopsis

Karigan G'ladheon, messenger, magic-wielder, and knight of Sacoridia, is still making halting progress recovering from her capture and torture at the hands of Grandmother and the Second Empire — haunted by memories of her torturer, Nyssa, and the losses she's sustained along the way.

Meanwhile, the Second Empire's forces are moving against Sacoridia, targeting a vulnerable garrison guarding a crucial mountain pass. With a new child and a country on the brink of war, King Zachary sends soldiers and Green Riders to hold the pass — though his own recovery from recent events is far from complete.

Reunited with her fellow Riders at the pass, Karigan takes on a leadership role and finds the Riders are not as she left them. As war draws closer to the heart of Sacoridia, Karigan must discover what it truly means to be a Rider — and what she'll have to sacrifice to heal from her past.
