Synopsis
Bill Lester defied expectations in NASCAR, a sport traditionally dominated by southern white men. At 40, he left his engineering career to pursue professional racing, facing significant odds as a Black, middle-aged non-southerner. Despite prejudice from fans, Lester achieved historic milestones, becoming the first African American to race in the Busch Series, participate in the Nextel Cup, and win a Pole Position start in the Craftsman Truck Series. This book shares his journey from childhood passion for muscle cars to street racing, amateur circuits, and finally, his groundbreaking professional career, offering an encouraging story for anyone challenging norms or overcoming adversity.
