Wild Reverence
A decade before Iris and Roman ever wrote a letter to a stranger, Matilda was already writing to one. Youngest goddess of her clan, gifted with humble messenger magic, she has spent her life proving herself in a realm where gods kill each other for power and alliances break as fast as they're made.
Ten years ago, the mortal lord Vincent of Beckett wrote to Matilda on the worst night of his life, begging the goddess he'd befriended in dreams for help. She never answered. He became the hardened, irreverent lord of the river, and forgot her.
Now Matilda comes tumbling through his window with a letter in hand, and the connection neither of them chose catches up with both of them. Set six centuries before Divine Rivals, Wild Reverence is a prequel to the Letters of Enchantment duology — a story about the cost of staying silent, and what it takes to let someone in.
Mortal lord of the river fortress Wyndrift, who dreamed of Matilda as a child and grew hardened after his plea for help went unanswered.
Youngest goddess of her clan, gifted with messenger magic; carries letters between the divine and mortal realms.
No. Wild Reverence is a prequel set six centuries before Divine Rivals, following a different pair of protagonists (the goddess Matilda and the mortal lord Vincent of Beckett), so it can be read first or on its own. Familiarity with Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows adds some texture — a few characters and settings recur — but isn't required to follow the story.
It's the series' prequel, published in September 2025 after Divine Rivals (2023) and Ruthless Vows (2023) but set roughly six hundred years earlier, before either of those books begins.
